We have been seeing an onslaught of attacks against Al Gore for his work on Global Warming awareness and action.
Most of the ads and articles have all been prompted from the the Oil and Gas folks that would rather spend their time, money and (exuse the pun) ENERGY on attacking the messenger, instead of actually maybe using it to find new technology that would help our environment and the economy.
Short sighted? Yes, but no one ever accused them of looking and planning ahead. If they did, we wouldn't be having this argument.
We know the latest attack was on Al Gore's energy use for his and his wife, Tipper's, home/office in Tennessee. Trying to compare his 10,000 square foot home to the average home. Not even mentioning the changes he already made to reduce his energy use and that he was paying much more for all energy to be GREEN. Well, even that argument tanked when you look at the actual energy use, especially for Tennesse.
First, Al Gore's home is 10,000 square feet, a great deal larger than the average american home, and Tennessee, East South Central's average usage is 50 percent higher than the national average, because of their climate and weather. And Mr. Gore pays more money for Green energy, which is clean energy, not fossil fuel energy, that emits carbon dioxide and a main contributor to global warming. It may also surprise you to learn that Mr. Gore's energy usage for his area, per square foot is AVERAGE, and I dare say, Mr. Gore, former Vice President of the United States who also has his and his wife office in his home, is not average. (Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Mississippi), the average is 15,447 kwh per household and 19.83 kwh per square foot. Gore’s consumption is 19.43 kwh per square foot, which is less than the average.
Now, how do you compare that with the current VP Cheney who's energy bill in 2000 was $135,000.00 and in 2001 $186,000 that he had placed on the Navy's budget for tax payers to pay? $25,000 versus $186,000.00? Wow, tough call, huh?
NOW, take that information and add it to this latest article just printed in the Tennessean. First I'll highlight a little area for you.
"Solar energy panels on Gore home a 'Go' ... almost
...
Reviewing the codes, recommending changes and passing the ordinance have taken about a year and a half, she said. She expects other people might put up solar panels, too, as a result."
WHAT? It took over 1 1/2 years to make the additional changes he wanted in making the environmentally friendly renovations?
Could there be any more holes in all these peoples reporting and attacks on Al Gore?
Well, for your pleasure, you can read their entire article and account of Al Gore's work and environmentally friendly personal changes on his home and office here.
"Global warming guru Al Gore had talked about putting solar panels on his Belle Meade home months ago, but no one was seeing them there.
The delay apparently wasn’t on his end.
Zoning laws for the city of Belle Meade so far haven’t permitted the panels, City Manager Beth Reardon said.
"The only holdup is that the ordinance allowing it is not effective until April 1," she said. "After that, he’s clear to go."
The city’s zoning code, originally enacted in 1938, doesn’t allow some other accoutrements of modern life, Reardon said.
"Large SUVs weren’t permitted to be parked in people’s driveways under the zoning codes," she said.
They’ll be legal after April 1, too.
The code has been amended over the years, but a sizable overhaul was still needed. The architect on the Gore house renovations had prodded the city to allow panels embedded with solar cells, Reardon said.
Reviewing the codes, recommending changes and passing the ordinance have taken about a year and a half, she said. She expects other people might put up solar panels, too, as a result.
Kalee Kreider, spokeswoman for the Gore family, said solar energy was an element in the Lynnwood Boulevard home renovation.
"I know the Gores have been working on it for quite some time," she said of the panels.
She did not have the details Monday night about the amount of electricity that would be generated.
The former vice president has been called a hypocrite by some factions for living in a 10,000-square-foot home with electric bills that last year averaged about $1,200 a month, on top of natural gas bills.
The renovation has included energy-efficient windows and lighting, along with the still-awaited solar panels, Kreider said. Gore also has been paying $432 a month extra since November on his NES bill to go toward green power."
