In his letter, Fred Fielding did not say the private, unsworn interviews would be final, or require that Congress waive any demands for sworn and public testimony. So here is how the Dems can proceed, while reserving their rights:
- Have the private meetings.
- Immediately after the Rove meeting, Conyers and Leahy should make the following statement:
Karl Rove confessed to everything. He sang like a bird. He pushed out the US Attorneys because they either did not go after enough Democrats, or too many Republicans. Said he had the President's OK on it. He fessed up not only to outing Valerie Wilson, but also dozens of other covert CIA agents "because they were Democrats." When pressed, Rove even admitted to rigging the 2004 vote in Ohio. And he frequently has sex with goats, when Jeff Gannon is not in town.
If Karl Rove would like to appear before our Committees to explain himself, the time and place are on the subpoenas.
- Let Rove deny it. Wait a news cycle.
- If Rove does not appear, vote on contempt of Congress.
