Some have criticized Ms. Couric's interview with Edwards and her use of "some say" journalism. Some have called her out as lacking any journalistic integrity in the first place.
I, however, say thank you.
Thank you for providing me with a look at how Edwards would respond in the face of regurgitated Republican talking points.
Thank you for letting John and Elizabeth show their true colors, their indefatigable courage and unimpeachable dignity.
Thank you for giving an irritating interview where other lesser candidates might have gotten angry, or pandered to the audience, or insulted our intelligence with not-so-subtle requests for pity to be later cashed out as votes.
In other words, thank you for being the reason I will vote for John Edwards in 2008.
Not because Elizabeth Edwards has cancer. Not because I feel sorry for their family. Not to spite Rush Limbaugh. Not as a sign of protest against a prominent member of the "some say" journalism crowd.
But because he, along with his wife, showed a sense of class, dignity, integrity, that I have not seen in major American politics since I can remember.
Thus, for giving John and Elizabeth the chance to show their humanity in the face of shoddy journalism:
I thank you Katie Couric.
