In this edition: Media should look at the demographics; reporters should seriously cover what is important and not just what excites them; Memo to the media, Dems investigating a lot because there’s a lot to investigate; media ignorance; behind the scenes at CBS News; ratings; and so much more...
Thoughts, and Then, the News
There should be more center-left programming on cable news. Why? There are more and more of us.
Increased public support for the social safety net, signs of growing public concern about income inequality, and a diminished appetite for assertive national security policies have improved the political landscape for the Democrats as the 2008 presidential campaign gets underway.
My only quibble with this is the wording: "assertive" national security policies. I think in context, the press release writer is equating assertive with using the military. An assertive national security policy presumably would have a military component, but an assertive national security policy can also be one where diplomacy is the main ingredient.
Now for the news:
I don’t care how much you hate health care, MSM, It’s IMPORTANT
So try to pretend you like covering it, k?

Edwards fans: Couric helped them
I’m with Kevin Drum on this one. The criticism of Couric is warranted, but I wouldn’t worry about the outcome of the interview. I think it’s a net positive.
Dems are exercising investigative powers, because there’s a lot to investigate
Stupid Beltway Types have such short memories. There’s a huge backlog of GOP BS that needs investigating. And I think the American people know this.

THK v. Halperin
Link
Teresa Heinz Kerry isn't too happy that author Mark Halperin calls her husband John Kerry's presidential campaign "The Way to Lose" in his new book, "The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008." Though Halperin is political director of ABC News and founder of its online analysis column The Note, Heinz blurted, "What would he know? Why would anyone listen to him?" when Charlie Rose interviewed the couple at the 92nd St. Y last week. On Wednesday, Halperin spoke at a Bernstein Global Wealth Management session and replied, "As Bill Clinton might say, ‘That's like a pig calling someone ugly.'"

Newsie’s Media News Report is a compilation of recent media news; it was formerly known as Media News Monday. If you have any media news to add, please do so. I don’t often post Media Matters stuff, because almost everyone already either links to or visits that site. Same with Greg Sargent’s The Horse’s Mouth at Talking Points Memo. I’ll post only if I’ve got something to add. For more RWCM watch & Media News: Penndit's News, Media News, and RWCM Watch Links. I get the advertising, public relations, targeting voters information, and media research from a variety of sources. Cross-posted at Penndit. For previous editions, search my diaries or Penndit.
