Last night Mike Malloy told a caller how befuddled he is over why the Democrats have yet to formally bring impeachment charges. After all, it's not as though the reasons to do so aren't AMPLE. Of course, most of his listeners and Kossacks would concur that it's high time that Pelosi et al get impeachment proceedings in high gear.
"But they don't have enough votes, so it would be futile, and perhaps even undermine the Democrats' power if they weren't able to successfully remove Bush/Cheney."
Here's how you put the ball in the Republicans' court so you can have it both ways....
Round up all of the Democrats and any self-respecting Republicans you can find and hold a press conference with all the bells and whistles. Then Speaker Pelosi should simply say, "The incriminating evidence against this administration, to us, is tremendously overwhelming. Yet some of our collegues don't think the president and vice president have done anything that rises to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. So we'd like to ask those Congressmen who are not standing with us today why they don't think it is incumbent upon Congress to enforce the Constitution and hold the Bush administration accountable for the following transgressions....

- From The Guardian article from Nov. 29, ‘Nowhere to Run,’ by Martin van Creveld, a professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and one of the world’s foremost military historians. Several of his books have influenced modern military theory and he is the only non-American author on the U.S. Army’s list of required reading for officers. According to him, President Bush should be impeached and put on trial ‘for misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 BC sent his legions into Germany and lost them.’ And that in Iraq ‘There is now a multi-party electoral system, but it has institutionalized and consolidated the country’s ethnic, sectarian and tribal divisions—exactly the sort of thing that should be avoided when attempting to democratize.’ Furthermore...‘No one can claim that any of this was unexpected. The dangers had been foreseen by numerous analysts and commentators long before the war started but they were ignored in Washington, mainly for ideological reasons.’

Ms. Pelosi, if you think that it would be unseemly for you to lead impeachment hearings against Bush/Cheney since you would fill the vacancy, then you could announce in advance that you'll immediately step down and let your chosen VP take the role.
