Ok, so I don't know if that's a good title or not, but I'm writing this in haste. I just finished watching the end of John Gibson on Fox (why, oh why do I do that to myself?), and his final "my word" section was about the left wing blogosphere spewing hatred toward Tony Snow and the news that his cancer has spread. Aside from the fact that he wrongly quotes WinSmith's diary on the topic, which he completely misrepresents, why are we giving ammunition to right wing blowhards like Gibson?
I know that Gibson made it seem like people were rooting for the cancer when most people were just saying "fuck Tony Snow." There's a difference, but not many people would accept it. When it comes to the bombers though, no one should in seriousness lament that they missed their target. I hate the man to, but that's beyond the pale. Follow me over the fold for a suggestion.
Daily Kos has a policy against people spouting off conspiracy theories, should we maybe have a policy about wishing for the death of public figures? I might be accused of being a bit Big Brother like here, but do we really want such toxic crap on here? I have no good wishes for Snow, Cheney, or Bush, but do I need to root for the bombers or for cancer? Or use it as an opportunity to convict Snow as a war criminal in the court of blog?
We are doing ourselves no good with such diaries and comments. And while Gibson took a swipe at dKos because of it, many people are going to be sympathetic to his point because they will perhaps feel that such diarists and bloggers have gone too far.
I invite comments on this, but please not on the specific issue of Snow having cancer, but rather on how far dKos should go in censoring certain views, how much we should be concerned with PR, and so on.
