I'm curious to know if anyone else who has Christian Right friends is noticing the same phenomenon that I am. Last night, my fire-breathing, right-wing Christian conservative friend and I stopped at a local watering hole about 10:00 PM and we talked politics until 1:00 AM. We had a very interesting conversation which knocked me for a loop.
The upshot of the conversation was that he was disgusted with the republican party and wanted a third party to vote for because he doesn't like either party. I reminded him that there were the Constitution and Libertarian parties. He proceeded to rant on each of the republican candidates and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty what he had to say. Here's essentially what he had to say about them.
McCain: "You never know where he stands on an issue from one day to the next."
Giuliani: "So immoral he'd make the people of Sodom and Gomorrah blush."
Romney: "There's no way I'm voting for a Mormon."
Now what you don't understand about my friend is that he is the steadiest, most loyal person you could ever meet. He has been a republican all his adult life since he was able to vote and has never voted Democratic that he admitted to me. As a matter of fact, he is the epitome of the base of the republican party and now he is looking about for an alternative. If they have caused him to seek an alternative party, the republicans are in a lot of trouble. You just know there are millions more like him seeking the same thing and when they find it there goes a big chunk of their base.
While he's not voting Democratic, if he and the millions like him vote for a third-party candidate, well let's just say the Democratic party is in a good position to be in power for a long time. It will be up to the netroots, to keep the Democratic party on the straight and narrow so the public has no reason to ever go any where else for good government.
So, has anyone else heard these rumblings?
