Welcome to my top ten reasons to support Obama.
1. He is new to DC and does not represent the traditional democratic party establishment.
2. He is not a multi-millionaire. He has spent most of his adult life living on an average salary. (his book sales have recently made him rich)
3. He was a community organizer by choice and worked on behalf of poor people--working against the intrenched status quo.
4. He is a person of color. (important to me but maybe not to others)
5. He believes in and practices the art of compromise.
6. His approach to politics is not overly partisan and his approach to campaigning is not overly aggressive.
7. He regularly and repeatedly demonstrates integrity, respect and honesty.
8. He appears to be electible, both in the dem primary and in the general.
9. He was against the war from the beginning.
10. Good government. I believe with all my heart that government has the capacity to do good works for regular people. (this is not about money or programs or entitlements) Obama has demonstrated through his language, speeches and actions that he will take an approach to governing that will be more thoughtful and more focused on getting things done for regular people than any other candidate. I think there are lots of ways that government can assist in improving the quality of people's lives and enable success in ways that go way beyond the traditional dem party line of more programs and services. Government should serve people and I think Obama understands that and will govern with that approach.
One more for good luck: Seems like a great all around guy :)
