I am now making it a habit to watch the daily videos on Washington Post and this morning George Bush is addressing the American Legion in Washington.
Today I like to address a talking point that is a driver for George Bush pushing his support for his policies which oppose common sense and the will of the country.
Bush said, "The members of congress have every right in expressing their opinion". My point to Mr. Bush is that the members of congress generally voice the will of people and not their opinions. It is their responsibility to listen to their constituents and express their will in their votes and the people express their will through their votes every 2 years as they did in November 2006. This is how our democracy works isn't it?
Additionally Bush said that you can not have diplomacy without the military back up. This certainly demonstrates his mental make up and the environment he grew up in, however I like to point out the Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King felt that non violence and being an example of transformation was the right way and they certainly achieved incredible results. Gandhi for example spent 17 years in South Africa before he left for India to start his work there. Diplomacy takes time and it requires trust and preparation which takes time. To use force to get what you want faster does not get you to the desired destination.
This should be obvious to anyone with a sense of history and just to note we are not talking about self defense like world war II was but about pre-emotive wars like the war in Iraq is. To change for the better requires nurturing, can't happen when you through bombs at people.
