Having power and being willing to lead are two very different things.
Democrats have gained control of Congress, but it remains to be seen whether they intend to use that authority to lead this country on the primary issue of our time. If the Democrats back down to Bush veto threats on the Iraq funding bill, we will have our answer. We will also have a confirmation of the GOP's primary talking point, namely that the Democrats are simply playing politics with the issue, and have no real desire to end this war.
The Democrats have all the authority they need to bring our troops home. The question is whether they are ready to lead this country, or whether they want to continue to leave that job to the Republicans. Whether they have the courage of their convictions, or are still the 90-pound weaklings getting rolled by the schoolyard bully.
Well Congress?
