As one of the only defenders of Don Imus on this website I wish to write a requiem. Finally the mob has his head! As the corporate media caves to the pressure of Al "friend of the jew" Sharpton, and a mass defection of corporate sponsors, I feel more indifferent about Don Imus losing his job at MSNBC than I thought I would. Don Imus was a unique voice, someone who brought attention to great causes such as autism, and sickle cell anemea, and provided children with life threatining diseases with a unique empowering opportunity at his ranch. Over the years he was an equal opportunity offender, but I never sensed much malice in his heart.
He definately crossed the line, and I don't think I can really blame MSNBC for their programming decisions. I just think that someone who deserved forgiveness was given a harsh sentance, and censored by the increasingly powerful politically correct police. What was Don Imus? He was just a morning radio dj, who spouted off his thoughts, right or wrong. We need to protect the ability for people to say dumb things, otherwise we are in trouble of losing the ability to say anything.
Corporate media networks like NBC are no place for free speech, that is for sure.
And I am not excusing what he said, it's just his apologies seemed so genuine. He was an old broken dumbass, but he was funny, in a bitter, cynical, sarcastic way. When he did his schtick, people should have realized that a court jester comments should not be considered as important as that of a king. The idiot should be protected from being taken too seriously.
I'm going to miss Don Imus in the Morning, it was show where stuffy journalists could get a bit more loose. His sarcastic banter was often hilarious to listen to and witness. And his perspective was always unique, especially after scandals of the day. I liked his folksy style, but it definately went into dark territory.
And now the next target: HIP HOP......please. Sure calling people you don't know nappy headed hos is wrong....but does that mean I can't call any girls hos. Or any guys hos? Or bitches? Or Dicks? or Assholes? We can never make a judgement about anyones character? Ho is a term about someones character, not just their gender. Fuck that.
This country cannot tolerate dumbasses on mainstream media, but as Hegel said : "Everything depends on the "identity of identity and non-identity" This movement toward negation in the dialtectical process, concerning appropriate speech was harsh and spartan.
But stupid is as stupid does....and so goes away Don Imus on MSNBC. I just hate the idea of someone telling me I shouldnt be watching this show because it's run by an unforgivable biggot, when as a modest Imus fan, I know that that is not a good estimation of his program.
And honestly I dont care about Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson, Or George Allen, Or Robert Byrd, all of them are forgiven in my book. All of them have paid an adequate price.
