I am so sick of the Bush Administration's constant attempts to twist and manipulate facts to fit into their unchanging agenda, and then loudly proclaiming 'round the world that they have finally figured out a way forward and the only thing holding it back are those damn Democrats.
The article that has gotten me so upset, (I'm still not used to it, even after almost six and a half years of it), is the CNN article Bush: emphatic no to timeline to withdraw troops. Now, the whole article is pretty bad, but I didn't really start yelling at my computer screen until the last few paragraphs under the boldface line Bush agrees Americans want change in Iraq.
On Saturday, the president agreed with Democrats that "the American people voted for change in Iraq." But he said that is what is happening now, under a new war plan he announced three months ago to send extra U.S. troops to Iraq to calm Baghdad and Anbar province and to install a new war commander, Gen. David Petraeus.
Bush is trying to make the argument that what the American people really wanted when they voted for, in overwhelming fashion, their Democratic candidates for Congress, is MORE TROOPS IN IRAQ??? Are you fucking kidding me? Of course you're not, you're the President of the United States. We're supposed to believe you know what's best for us, I know, I know. But surely, there is no way in hell you expect anyone to make that little jump of faith (over a huge gaping chasm of reason) with you, is there, Mr. President? But wait, there's more.
"I call on members of Congress to put partisanship on hold, resolve their differences, and send me a clean bill that gets our troops the funds they need," Bush said.
Mr. President, this is EXACTLY WHAT CONGRESS HAS ALREADY DONE! They have drafted a "clean" bill (as opposed to what, a funding bill written on soiled napkins?), which is their pesky annoying Constitutional right. This bill will completely get our troops the funding they need. Congress has already resolved their differences, they do this by majority vote. Putting "partisanship on hold" doesn't mean LETTING THE MINORITY PARTY GET WHAT IT WANTS!!
Mr. President, you really need to suck it up. You are a complete failure. You have proven a total inability to govern. You are lucky you haven't been impeached yet, you can thank your equally useless Congressional majority of 1998 for tainting the public's opinion about the whole process. Congress can, and should, keep you not just on a short leash, but a fucking choke collar. YOU are the one who threatens each and every one of our troops with a disgraceful conduct of an immoral war. The sooner we get out of Iraq, the sooner we can begin to rebuild our country. As for your Presidency, Mr. Bush, you're on the clock.
