Molly Ivins told us to make a difference and have fun, and this story would have pleased her. I hope it will make you smile, too.
Women from Code Pink and a group called the Surge Protection Brigade used a clever plan and props to enter a hotel where Karl Rove was speaking on Friday the thirteenth of April, and staged a mock arrest right outside the door of his talk.
Details and pictures below.
Surge Brigade "Arrests" Karl Rove
From friends in the Surge Protection Brigade, who managed to
"arrest" Karl Rove during his visit to Portland, Oregon. A description of the
event is below. See pictures here:

"The Surge Protection Brigade along with some women from Code Pink
managed to get inside the hotel where Rove was speaking last night ( Friday the
thirteenth of April) and staged a mock arrest right outside the door of
his talk. We made reservations for 10 for a birthday party and arrived
with festive dress, presents and balloons and the police actually held the
door open for us. Fortunately we still have two bumper sticker free cars in
the group so we were able to drive right to the door of the hotel
restaurant and park our cars - very convenient. After dinner we went over to the
Atrium right outside his meeting room and sat down to open the presents, which
contained the props and costumes for our theatrical demonstration. We
got to complete the whole performance with one local TV camera rolling
before they pushed us out of the building. We planned it so that none of us
would be arrested (it was Friday and we all had busy schedules for the
weekend) and fortunately that worked out. We had coverage on at least three of
the local TV stations, 2 radio stations, and in the Oregonian. It's like
being back in the early 70's but we're now a bunch of gray hairs with a few
"kids" (now in their 30's!) which opens up all sorts of possibilities. We
were amazed that they let us in and everything went just about perfectly
according to our improv script outline. Lord knows if we're doing any
good, but the action does help chase away depression at the state of the
world."
