I just found out a horrible thing: Dick Cheney hasn't called Scooter Libby once since the trial!
I thought to myself, "How can that BE? Cheney is such a caring, compassionate guy, especially to those that work under him."
I think that I've uncovered the startling truth. Follow me below the fold to discover what it is, and HOW YOU CAN HELP!!
WASHINGTON Apr 15, 2007 (AP)— In the nearly six weeks since his close friend and former chief of staff was convicted of lying and obstructing an investigation, Vice President Dick Cheney has not once spoken to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
Why?
"Well, there hasn't been occasion to do so," Cheney said in an interview broadcast Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation."
.....
Cheney's interviewer, Bob Schieffer, was so surprised to hear that news that he asked the vice president about it again.
Why not calls to express your regrets?
"I just I haven't had occasion to do that," was all that Cheney would say.
This seems too bizzare to believe. I mean, I could see some other politician doing this, but Cheney isn't one to just dump a lifelong friend who's been caught doing something wrong. There had to be some other reason...
Then I realized what had happened! The White House is SO worried about the Democrats not funding our brave troops, that they've cut back on all expenses! Knowing Dick Cheney's heart of gold, I can bet you RIGHT NOW that they've turned the heat off in the Vice President's wing, cancelled coffee service (taking turns bringing in generic coffee from the Safeway), and have multiple employees sharing a light bulb to see by, in a self-sacrificing effort to save money to support our troops!
Dick is afraid that if he calls Scooter, that the money he spends on that long-distance call could mean the difference in some patriotic Marine getting the body armor he needs, and having to go without.
I just know that Mr. Cheney's heart is probably breaking since he can't call Scooter, but he's just too darned proud to ask for a handout so he can make that call. I think we should salute such a patriotic, self-sacrificing American icon such as he! I propose that we all send a phone card to the Vice President, with a note that he has permission to use them to call Scooter as often as he lieks, so he can give his dear friend the support we all know he longs to give him!
Mail your phone cards to:
