the coverage of the VT shooting. I saw the press conference in which the jackles of the media grilled the pres of the university and the chief rent-a-cop about why they couldn't stop this guy. Of course, the fact is that anyone with a couple of 9mm's can walk into any public place anywhere in the country and kill a bunch of people. What was being ignored was the 800lb gorilla in the corner.
Not once did I hear the words "gun control" or "NRA" mentioned. No one mentioned what kind of guns they were either. Were they Glocks? Smith and Wesson? I switched channels and watched faux for a bit. They had someone flooging that old lie that "if only someone else had a gun the coud have shot the guy." As if what we need is more guns and not less.
I proceeded to watch the local nyc news. It was mostly about the flooding in NY, NJ and CT. They also had a fairly long segment dedicated to the shooting but guess what they didn't mention...
Then I watched the evening news with KC(feel free to flame me for that)she did her usual touchy feely blah blah coverage and somehow she never got around to mentioning Gun Control laws.
Then i switched to the News Hour on PBS. Surely they would mention it... I waited and waited but nope.
Then I watched Olberman. About halway through his show he gave a teaser at the end of a segment indicating that he was going to talk about gun control... I waited... next segment-nope... the one after that TWO MINUTES!! How bent over does the NRA have this country? The BBC news showed a bit of Bowling for Columbine!! Why is that the American media is so craven? Could it be that they're all bought and paid for? Will any politician have the courage to stand up to the NRA ever? Or is gun control just a totally dead issue?
I sure wish they'd ask the Gov. of Virginia if he thinks they should tighten up their gun Laws.
33 people is a lot but what about the hundred or so bodies in NYC every year that are gunned down with 9's from Virginia????
