Words and accusations whirl about this day, the numbers of the silent dead increase, heart break after heartbreak. Families across the Country answer to the terrifying knocking on the door. Their soldier is gone. Three years ago tomorrow I answered that door, the lives of my family and I forever broken.
Tonight in the Philadelphia area and during the next month in other cities, PBS will run a documentry by Peter Daulton, called Eyes Wide Open, it shows the display of empty boots that has traveled the Country to honor the fallen. This sad journey of boots has been sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee. In the documentary the story of my son Sgt Sherwood Baker is told and other families speak of their terrible loss.
It is a quiet film, - it is a story of 3333 lost here, 100,000's lost in Iraq, their voices lost forever.
Where shall our voices be heard?
