OK, so here we are, the liberal media is out of bankruptcy with a new president, Mark Green, and decisions have to be made.
My complaint:
Losing Marc Maron was a mistake of the last management, but not paying him what he was owed was the choice of Mark Green so he's gone. That being said, moving Sam Sedar from a five day three hour slot to a three hour weekend show to critique the "Meet the Establishment" Sunday shows from the bloggers perspective could also be a huge mistake. It's only compounded by filling Sam Sedar's space with a highly rated New York "liberal" with a single name and no national recognition. As Green excused his decision, to paraphrase: In the 9-12 slot, we don't want anything too intellectual taxing or thoughtful going on!
Thankfully, DK starts it's day at 6am Eastern, so there'll still be a liberal area to think in from 9-12 that Lionel and Springer before him wont need to think about.
However, David Bender (Politically Direct) interviewed Mark Green last night about the changes, below the fold is a more or less accurate schedule and line up I gleaned from the fireside chat.
From May 21st
Weekdays
6-9 - The Young Turks with Cenk & Ben
9-12 - Lionel
12-3 - Thom Hartmann
3-6 - Randi (My Queen) Rhodes
6-8 - Rachel Maddow
8-midnight - The Air Americans with Mark Riley
The Air Americans:
Four hours a night on weekdays hosted by Mark Riley, with co hosts, David Bender, Mike Pappantonio, Bobby Kennedy jr and Laura Flanders.
It looks like we've lost the only daily eco programming with Betsy Rosenburg and Politically Direct has been absorbed into "The Air Americans" and "Ring of Fire" and John Elliot is moving from 10-midnight on weekdays to the same slot on the weekends.
Weekends
The timings seem a little less clear, with all the repeats from the week as well the new shows this is all I can tell for sure. Laura Flanders' "Radio Nation" is cut from 3 hours to 1, but she joins "The Air Americans" on weekdays.
Saturday
3-6 Ring of Fire - Extended to 3 hours with Bobby Kennedy Jr, Mike Pappantinio and David Bender
6-7 "This Week in America" Hosted by Mark Green with panelists Arianna Huffington and former Sen. Bob Kerrey (NE) - Outside the beltway perspective both philosophically and geographically with rotating guests.
1 hour of Radio Nation with Laura Flanders
10-midnight - This is America with John Elliot (California)
Sunday
3-4 Rebroadcast "This Week in America" Hosted by Mark Green.
4-7 Sedar on Sundays - Reviewing the Sunday talk shows - The netroots critiquing the networks from the bloggers perspective.
1 hour of Your money with Mark Sussman - Ethical investments and clean green money.
1 hour of Radio Nation with Laura Flanders
10-midnight - This is America with John Elliot (California)
Mark Green's idea is to become a media giant of internet radio, video and on demand listening representing progressive patriots and this is the line up to achieve that goal. There'll be a spiffy new interactive website too for the progressive, cultural and social community.
I'm still wondering where the comedy is in this new line up!
