There they go again.
The Bushies using Gen. David Petraeus as a mouthpiece shamelessly continue to conflate the war in Iraq with al-Qaeda's attacks of 9/11.
"Iraq is in fact the central front of al-Qaida's global campaign," he said. "Al-Qaida-Iraq remains a formidable foe with considerable resilience and a capability to produce horrific attacks."
The bullshit gets ever more desperate.
In an AP story just published, "Petraeus Eyes Long Commitment in Iraq," the general calls the war in Iraq "the most complex and challenging I have ever seen."
Um, well, maybe that's because it's a civil war that can't be won.
Or maybe because the big fat fighting machine called the U.S. military isn't trained to fight against insurgencies. As Thomas Ricks wrote in Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq:
The war in Iraq should have been planned using the classic counterinsurgency doctrine, which says to use the minimal amount of force necessary to doing the job, rather than use overwhelming force. And it also says to treat the people well, even prisoners.
Or maybe because a general named by the Bush-Cheney oilmen is obliged to say that the war will require "an enormous commitment" over time by the United States...
...because it is...
...and always has been...
...about liberating -- whoops! -- I mean securing The Oil.
