A member of Veterans for Peace recently learned the truth about John Campbell. The Republican for the California's 48th congressional district held a town hall meeting at Peet's Coffeehouse. The Vet asked, "Mr. Campbell, Why did you vote to cut veteran's benefits?"
Cambpell answered, "Because the vets are doing fraud."
Mr. Campbell and the other Republicans seem anxious to stand in front of the troops -- I say it's time to stand behind the veterans.
Campbell likes to hold "coffee chats" where he "meets" with constituents at a coffee shop and "answers" questions.
He held one such event on February 19, 2007 at the Peet's Coffee ain Tustin. met by a smattering of War Protesters and War Supporters. Mr. Campbell is not very good on his feet.
Picture a mixed crowd of Republicans and Democrats. Questions are coming from both sides and he is answering questions in a way to appeal to the Republicans.
Jim Gibson, an activist in Veterans for Peace directly asked, "Mr. Campbell why did you vote to cut veterans' benefits?"
Mr. Campbell answered, "Because vets do fraud."
[Does Mr. Campbell forget that the 48th District has 44,641 veterans?]
Barrage Campbell's office with the question, "Why do you think the veterans who gave their all for their country, would now defraud their country?
That was not the end of the gaffs. Mr. Campbell uttered a powerful statement, captured by the Irvine World News:
"We are in a long war with people...who want to kill us. No one has yet offered an alternative plan."
