Dear friends at Daily Kos:
For anyone who cares -- with a day's perspective, I wish I hadn't posted that Drudge diary here at Daily Kos yesterday. My apologies.
(si, mas)
There are a lot of excellent diaries up on the site today, so I don't want to start another three-ring circus. (This diary should not be recommended, needless to say. Truly.)
With a healthy amount of fresh air, some time with my kids and our dog, and a little time to clear the nasty Drudgery from my system, it's clear that the combination of 1) the alleged "offense" and 2) the bald assertion of the title, plus 3) the dry tone (intentional, but probably not a good choice) made for a toxic stew.
I apologize to those who found the subject offensive. And also to those who thought it was a reckless thing to do to Daily Kos.
Why do I say a "qualified" apology in the title? (Yes, it's the Rumsfeldian technique of asking-myself-a-question-you-may-not-have-asked-me.)
Because I really didn't agree with ALL the criticism. But I'll spare you the detail in the interest of letting this dog lie. Or better, die.
I won't plead temporary insanity, but I was close to something like it yesterday with that Drudge pro-war propaganda about Michael Ware and "Body Armor" McCain. Why did this particular thing make me go a tad postal? Who knows. Not me. Certainly there are equally egregious media offenses that cross the transom on a regular basis. 'Twas just a personal tipping point moment, on a rainy day, I suppose.
I never believed the diary would get more than a few recommends. So I was surprised when I came back to it after dinner and saw that it had made Rec list. But even then I didn't think it putting the site in danger of libel. I still think it doesn't, but...
It doesn't matter. I deleted it in the wee hours last night, and slept better. I'm not a big presence in this community, but I've been here for a couple of years and am grateful for the place. Since so many people wanted the diary gone, it seemed right.
As for the copious comedy writing criticism / advice -- some of you had excellent points. Some of you -- less so, in my humble opinion. But I especially look forward to seeing how it's done from those who really ripped me a new one yesterday. Let's see the magic, now. I better read some freakin' Comedy Gold.
Heh. As Rodney Dangerfield said, "Tough crowd, tough crowd" here. But -- despite petulant outbursts of bitterness like above -- I'm glad it's a tough crowd here. Keeps a person honest. Smart. Humble. And occasionally humiliated. That's not always a bad thing, eh?
If any of you are interested in a non-(ahem)-"funny" diary by me, for whatever reason, here's one from a few days ago that's a little closer to my heart. And to my functioning brain:
Here's how Matthew Dowd can make REAL amends
Wishing many blessings on your Kossackian heads. Collectively and individually. Thanks for your time. (No tip jar. They make me nervous now.)
Again, my apologies.
cheers,
Chumley
