I'm sure it doesn't really constitute news to very many people around here, but I've sort of drifted away from the news lately and have been absorbed in work and domestic endeavors, and on reading DKos for the last few days, a common source of problems seems to be becoming more clearly defined.
The other day, I read a diary about how CDC policy must pass through the office of "an additional bureaucratic layer that requires CDC foreign postings be approved by a senior political appointee's office in Washington."
Today, I read one that goes to the involvement of the White House or Monica Goodling in the US attorneys fiascos and it just seems to me that "White House involvement" == Karl Rove's Office, which seems to me more and more clearly to be a pretty effective filter through which passes all information the President gets.
If that's the case, and we've all long known it must be, what is different now that makes this more clearly evident?
The bricks are crumbling. That may sound like a hopeful note; but unfortunately, as we've seen in Iraq, that's when the ones cornered inside come out shooting.
The American People -- some of them, anyway...no critical mass, but something to build on -- have woken up to the fact that there is an Office of First Considerations, a purely political operation headed up by yepyougotit that acts as the sole advisor to the president. Bush hears nothing of consequence from any other source unless he's subjected to a heckler that managed to elude the political drones posing as security officiers at public appearances. He doesn't read the papers...may not even be able to. Rove spoon feeds the guy, and the 30% sit up and bark like seals on FoxNews.
It's beginning to dawn (so it seems) on a few of the more thoughtful persons in the media that the wool was not merely pulled over the eyes of the American People, but over their own as well and that what was installed by a broken machine in 2000 and reinstalled in 2004 like a fresh version of Windows on a virus-laden hard drive was not a leader or an executive or a commander or a decider, but rather a puppet and an operation.
The operation is one designed to consolidate supreme political authority through a redefinition of democracy to mean little more than brand chocie. But what FLAVOR do you want your poison to be?
I remain convinced that this operation will do everything in its power to prevent its opposition -- democracy-loving people of all viewpoints -- from taking the reigns. There is no way the Republican entrenchment can turn over to the opposition control of the power it has claimed for itself over the last six years. No way in hell. This impending election is not some kind of game they're playing understanding that they stand a solid chance of losing.
Sharpen your spoons now, is all I'm saying.
