I have been following the situation in Palestine and Israel closely for many years now.
Not long ago upon the decision of Ariel Sharon to evacuate Gaza, I was left with a cliffhanger.
What was Sharon’s end game?
It was always my thought that he evacuated Gaza only long enough to give the Palestinian’s enough time to show the international community that he was justified in some future Mega-raid/slaughter. Or perhaps he intended to really build a corridor to link the West Bank and Gaza.
In any event I am left wondering why he would make such a strategic military blunder.
The military blunder being the relinquishing control of the Southern Gaza border, known as the Philadelphi border route. I call it a blunder STRICTLY from an Israeli perspective. I support all Palestinian claims of sovereignty and have written many diaries on my opinion of Israel as a British imperialist creation.
Having said that....does anyone (Kos Readers) know what Sharon’s end game was? Why did he reverse himself so dramatically by withdrawing from Gaza? Who remains in the Israeli administration that was party to the construction of such an end game?
I welcome your comments, objections and general attention to this matter.
Thanks.
