I’m glad that I read Dobson’s hit on Newly Rich Boy Rudy (the article can be found here). He begins his sermon, "The jig is up. Rudy Giuliani finally admitted in a speech at Houston Baptist University last week that he is an unapologetic supporter of abortion on demand." And Dobson is just getting warmed up.
You’ve got to give Dobson credit for carefully setting the frame. Abortion is not a dreaded, rare choice. It is not a private, painful decision. It is "Abortion On Demand" - a mass-marketed government business made easily available to any little trollop in the country.
But it gets better. Dobson continues:
"...how was he able for many years to defend the horrible procedure by which the brains are sucked from the heads of viable, late-term, un-anesthetized babies?"
Babies! Babies! My God, this man is good. Godless people are sucking the brains out of Un-anesthetized Babies! No wonder we are all going to Hell. No wonder people blow the brains out of adults associated with abortion or family planning. I suppose they figure that they love life so much that they will kill as many people as they have to in order to preserve it. "Sir, we had to destroy the country to save it..."
And then there is another sacred icon, marriage:
"Giuliani must have known then, and surely understands now, that the courts have taken dead aim at the institution of marriage, and that the only way to secure it is with a federal constitutional amendment."
Look, folks, if the courts are allowed to interpret the constitution in this country, Dobson’s marriage will surely be ruined. All marriages will come to ruin if this country decides to give rights to certain people.
Then, after an "elephant in the room" recap about Newly Rich Boy Rudy’s infamous family life, Dobson exhibits a bit of moral equivocation with:
"Unlike some other Republican presidential candidates, Giuliani appears not to have remorse for cheating on his wife."
Lovely. Dobson cannot find a favored candidate who has not committed sins against marriage among the Rich White Men he likes, so he condemns Newly Rich Rudy for not publicly flogging himself for his tendency to treat his "betrothed-for-life" just the way the other guys do.
Dobson brings it all home:
"If given a Hobson's – Dobson's? – choice between him and Sens. Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, I will either cast my ballot for an also-ran – or if worse comes to worst – not vote in a presidential election for the first time in my adult life. My conscience and my moral convictions will allow me to do nothing else."
This man is such a moral icon to be emulated, that rather than vote for the person who would most benefit our country and our society – in his very own estimation – he would vote for the greater of evils or just not vote at all. What a guy. I have a feeling that in the end he would damn to hell, in the name of God, anyone who does not vote for the greater of evils.
Dobson says nothing about thirst for war or torture. I suppose that he feels that if his God thirsted after war and torture, good on Him. And good on them Rich White Boys.
For the record, civilization-as-we-know-it would cease to exist if Giuliani was to be elected. 9/11 is not a sound governing principle, as we have learned. Torture is not good government policy, as we have learned. And in this instance Dobson does nothing but undress in the same room with his cross-dressing inferior, Newly Rich Rudy, when he preaches to his choir.
