Hi, I'm Ambrosius. You might remember that I like GIN.
We met a while back, I shared a lot of delicious fermented juniper berry juice, and then the Spring got out of control; Bar Ambrosiana went on hiatus.
Tonight, we REOPEN BAR AMBROSIANA and have Top Comments below the fold!
I think it is an important thing to always be on the look out for one more thing to do to make my life more sustainable.
Yeah....I've switched all of my lights to compact fluorescents (sorry headache suffers). I line dry all of my clothes. I buy as many organics as I can. You get the point. I try to be as granola as I can. After all, I think that sustainable living is really important. It is one thing to vote Democrat and fight for progressive ideals, but if we are burning through oil faster than George Bush lies....well....what is the point?
I have a little project that I started this Spring that I'm rather proud of. I encourage you to model yourself after Ambrosius.
I live in an apartment, and I don't have any garden access (or compost pile access). I hate throwing away food materials. Here's my solution: I have two buckets that used to hold cat litter (back when I bought the awful clay stuff that never biodegrades. We've switched to Sweat Scoop, made from "all natural" wheat, and the girls seems quite happy). I fill up one bucket: coffee grounds, bits of lettuce, (very small amounts of) moldy bread (since its usually not a good thing in compost), peels, anything that would go in a compost pile. When the bucket gets full, I give it to one of my friends who composts. I start filling the other bucket , and my friend returns the empty bucket at the next convenient moment.
I really like the fact that I'm not throwing food away. I like the fact that my leftovers return to the food cycle and support organic gardening.
I like getting fresh vegetables :)
I throw away hardly anything. I recycle everything I can and compost most of the rest. I love it.
So, apartment dwellers, get a bucket and figure out who wants your compost!!!
When you find a brilliant, insightful, funny, or somehow worthy of TOP COMMENTS, send it to TopComments AT gmail DOT com. Be sure to tell us your username or Ambrosius will get the credit.
From Cali Scribe:
From brooklynbadboy's diary
This thread started by essexgreen muses about a former Kossack's political ambitions. Related threads: Chumley imagines the debate possibilities, and TomP picks a running mate for Edwards.
And in the same diary, Yoshimi is still waiting...
In Lente Festina's diary, lightnessofbeing has some tips for women that make me wonder if he knows my spouse...
And on a serious note, in gnostic's diary, dgone36 points out US hypocrisy.
From Monkeybiz:
I can't help it -- LiberalVirginian's late-night comment about religious focus group testing, from Smike's "Dobson Preaching to His Choir", made me laugh. Oooh, I'm going straight to hell for that one.
From kath25:
Last night's Kossacks Under 35 Diary produced many great comments about graduate school. These ones really stuck out:
2pt5cats on online grad school learning.
EngProf on the benefits of studying... Engineering! Silly kath thought "eng" stood for English! D'oh!
sadpanda on why you should work and be miserable before going back to school.
Sharon Jumper on becoming qualified to teach online courses.
decembersue on non-residential MFA programs.
concerned American on how to beg for funding.
noweasels on lawyers and lawyering.
plf515 on picking an advisor/committee.
(Now, see, you don't need to go wade through all 300+ comments yourself!)
Last, and possibly least, my picks:
SecondComing is totally right (methinks) on what Iraq funding bill the dems should have sent to the Prez.
steve davis has some ideas on how the Dem leadership could stand up to Bush on Iraq.
LouisMartin on the importance of public perception in the attempt to oust Gonzales.
I must admit, I sometimes feel like catchawave.
ryan t on message vs action.
eugene has a great, practical debt solution.
