Boy, I am opening a huge can of worms here...
Yes, things are terrible. Bush has been the worst president in history, I am sure you will all agree. Things are so horrible it is hard to find something to smile, or even giggle about...
But Bush is doing all he can, people! He is really going the extra mile to make us chuckle from time to time.
Who among us can forget where they were when they heard these gems?
"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."
"Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."
"Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?"
Hey, this kind of folksy wit takes YEARS to perfect.
And didn't you giggle, snicker, or shake your head in wonder when he said...
"I said I was looking for a book to read, Laura said you ought to try Camus. I also read three Shakespeares. ... I've got a eck-a-lec-tic reading list."
"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound largemouth bass in my lake." (on his best moment of his presidency--and he may have been right on this)
"Wow! Brazil is big."
Ok, and there are plenty of headscratchers, too....
"The relations with, uhh -- Europe are important relations, and they've, uhh -- because, we do share values. And, they're universal values, they're not American values or, you know -- European values, they're universal values. And those values -- uhh -- being universal, ought to be applied everywhere."
"You see, not only did the attacks help accelerate a recession, the attacks reminded us that we are at war." (Um...yay attacks??)
And nearest and dearest to my heart was the day he uttered this gem...
"Who could have possibly envisioned an erection -- an election in Iraq at this point in history?"
