What if Obama votes yes to authorize additional funding for the war effort? What happens then?
I can imagine his decision. He has already said that no one wants to play chicken with the troops leading me to surmise that he doesn't believe that it is a good idea to let the troops hang out to dry or suffer in any way as a means to try and pressure Bush to end the war.
I can imagine that he may know that since there aren't enough votes a no vote is only a symbolic gesture and it would be better to err on the side of pragmatism.
I can imagine that since he doesn't like to play politics he might think that a no vote is just playing to the base.
I can imagine him deciding not to play to the base, since he doesn't have a pattern of pandering to the base, and voting yes on principle. I imagine that it would be a more consistent pattern of behavior.
I can imagine that he knows that we will not get out of this war until after 1.20.09. So what exactly is the importance of this vote?
I can imagine this vote will be pretty fucking important, at least until the next important vote.
I can imagine the MSM going strong and long with the story that the left is outraged, angry, betrayed and despondent due to the Obama (and Clinton?) vote.
I can imagine the left being angry, outraged and betrayed. If the reaction of the last couple of days is any indication then the blogosphere will go ballistic and Obama may never be forgiven.
And then again maybe he will vote no?
