Alright Democrats out there, planning to vote on a bill that will give Bush a blank check, listen up. I don't know if you watch football, but you're about to get a lesson from the 2001 New England Patriots. When you have the ball, you GO FOR THE WIN.
In 2001, the Patriots, led by a young Tom Brady, had improbably made their way to the Super Bowl. They defeated the Oakland Raiders with help from an obscure rule (known as the Tuck Rule), and then gone on to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Their odds weren't that good, to say the least. Vegas had them as 17 point underdogs, and the pundits almost unanimously chose the St. Louis Rams to win the game.
However, Belichick and the Patriots had other ideas. By the end of the third quarter, the Patriots were up 17-3. The win was seemingly theirs.
However, the Rams weren't going to give up that easily, and scored twice in the fourth quarter to tie the score, 17-17, with only 1:30 left to go, and no timeouts.
Now, what should the Patriots do? Do they kneel on the ball, and wait for overtime, or do they go for the score? John Madden thought the answer was obvious... paly it safe, wait for overtime, and hope for a coin flip in their favor. Let's just say that Madden would get along great with Democratic strategists today.
Instead, the Patriots PLAYED TO WIN. Brady made three short passes to take them to their 41 with 33 seconds left, and then made two key passes to get the Pats to the Rams 30 with 7 seconds left. Then, the Patriots kicked, Adam (Automatic) Vinatieri, drilled the ball through the uprights to complete a historic playoff run for the Patriots and an upset of epic proportions.
So Democrats, right now you're in Brady's shoes. There's not much time left in the game to change the outcome. What are you going to do? Are you going to kneel on the ball, and 'flip a coin' on Iraq? Or are you going to stand up for your principles, stand up for all the people railing against the war, and score a touchdown by refusing to give Bush a blank check?
If the Patriots can do it, then you can too. Don't be afraid of criticism, take the ball and SCORE. Your fans are behind you 100%.
