So ABC News and Prevention are running a thing on women's health, and it is kinda sad to see that in a national participation poll on women's health, tied into nationally televised segments (I think on GMA), the total participation of voters is under 1000 (the leaders are seperated by a handful at 236 and 233 as of my vote).
One of my collegues in the Medford (Oregon) schools is being considered, and this link is to the spotlight on her, but in interests of women's health, I'd encourage folks to look at the whole slate and take part in the voting for whomever they wish, driving participation and awareness on a more meaningful topic than where American focus usually goes... like to Sanjaya.
I rarely diary, but I find it sad that TV viewer votes on really irrelevent things get huge response, and on things like this are pretty much ignored... course it may be here, too, but that's OK :)
The basic idea is that healthy women all across the country were solicited (directly, via family) to contribute their stories in an effort to role-model for the greater population choices on diet, exercise, and general 'good living' as a way to make individual lives better, but also as a way to strengthen our collective society - the 'it takes a village' meme has the related, 'it takes some village elders' concept, too... Anyway, a handful of finalists, all women who've overcome health adversity and are thriving in their settings, with their families, etc... are the focus of this effort and basically no-one is paying attention.
