This letter just went to my senators. By snail mail. To politicians, they listen to snail mail the most. The more letters, the more political pressure. Let's be relentless. Dear Senator :
I want to urge you in the strongest possible terms to work and vote for the end of our participation in the Iraq civil war. Just this weekend, 12 more members of the U.S. armed forces have died. There is no more for us to do there. There is no country to invade (we did that.) There is no leader to capture (he has been hanged.) There is no territory to conquer (we did that.) There are 2 main combatants, the Shiites and the Sunnis, each side attacking us as they attack each other. None of our policies are trying to resolve this conflict. Our only policy, it seems, is to join the fighting. Is any of our military action actually aimed at bringing peace? The answer over the last 4 years is no. The future doesn’t look any brighter.
I am not willing to wait for September, either. I oppose the TV talking point deadline of September. Did you vote for it? No. Why does Rep. Boehner, the House minority leader, get to set that deadline. His party lost in 2006.
I am also concerned about Iraq war policies stripping us of our protection at home. Last week, the governor of Kansas said that troops and equipment that could have been used to help the recover from destructive tornadoes are in Iraq. Will YOUR STATE find itself in a similar situation if disaster strikes.
End the war now. Set firm deadlines for our troops to Iraq. The time for benchmarks are over.
Sincerely,
Your name
