Dear Mayor Bloomberg,
I address you with this open letter to humbly request that you run for President of the United States of America in 2008. I should be honest, though – I’m a loyal Democrat and have no intention of voting for you. So, you may ask, why am I asking you to run for President?
Mayor Bloomberg, I’m asking you to run for President because the Republican Party needs to die, and I believe that you are the man to kill it. See, the national Republican Party is irredeemably corrupt, and the rot of corruption extends to the state Republican parties as well. Those state Republican parties that are not corrupt are hopelessly extreme, out-of-touch with the wants and needs of the average American. America needs you to run for President in order to sweep away the fundamentalist zombies and greedy crony capitalists that the Bush Administration has invited to dismember our government and loot the national treasury. Together we can fix America, and it will be much easier if you run for President in 2008.
You can kill the Republican Party because Republicans are very dissatisfied with their candidates and America’s direction, and aren’t even that happy with George W. Bush. George Bush’s approval rating is around 30% and falling. The Republican Party brand is slipping. You have a great opportunity to pick up disaffected Republicans and independents.
Now, I know it will be hard for you to win an election without Democratic votes, maybe even impossible. Dems aren’t likely to vote for you in 2008 – you can blame Nader for that. A third party or independent candidate has never won a Presidential election, and chances are you won’t be the first. That said, even in 2012, you’ll be younger than John McCain is now. If you destroy the Republican Party now, like how the Republicans destroyed the Whigs back in 1856, you have a chance to be elected President in 2012. Besides, anything can happen in politics. Ross Perot was insane, and won 19% of the vote in 1992. You can do better than that, can’t you?
I only ask that if you run for President, do it right. Spend lots of money (hey, you can’t take it with you when you die) and start your own political party. I figure that a billion dollars can make you a legitimate presidential candidate with ballot access and a party apparatus in every state. Run congressional candidates in some key states, especially in states with a history of third party movements and vulnerable Republican Senators. It’ll help you build a national movement. Besides, these Republicans need to go because of their allegiance to the corrupt and immoral Bush Administration, and you can help get them out of office.
Right now the Republican Party is (barely) being kept afloat by its past victories and money coming from the business community. If you win enough votes in 2008 while starting your own party, you can bring all of that money to your side, leaving the Republicans with only the anti-immigrant, anti-science wing of the Party and no money. The Repubs would be completely destroyed outside the South and parts of the Rockies, leaving you to lead one of America’s two major parties. Today’s Republican Party would be gone forever, relegated to the dustbin of history.
Mayor Bloomberg, please consider seriously my request to run for President and start a third party. America needs you.
Signed,
