Last night I was just home when I received a text saying, and I quote "John Edwards wants 2 talk 2 you! Hit reply. Type "CALL" & hit Send. John will call YOU right back!"
You can imagine the thrill of possibly spending some time, however brief, potentially talking to the next President of the United States. Wow!
I was so nervous, my heart started racing. What would I ask him, being an avid reader of political news, especially here at Daily Kos? I wanted to make sure that however brief our conversation was that it was spent well.
I thought for a minute and decided to ask him a meta question "How do you propose to reinvigorate the those who have worked very hard for change in our government only to see our legislator continue down a path the of least resistance, especially in terms of the war?"
Mind you, Nancy is my representative, and she got an ear full (or at least a text-full) when the house was unable to affectively stand up against Bush Co around the war.
But I digress. The idea that a John had the time to call me, I felt special. So I sent back the requisite text saying 'Call'. The phone rang right back and suddenly I was listening to a recording of John asking for money. To say the least I was disappointed.
It got me thinking that if John did call a few hundred people and listen to the every-day citizen talk about what's important to them, I would feel like my voice was being heard, even if vicariously through someone else.
So what do you think, was this type of message (text anyway) a little misleading? Should John answer some of those calls?
