Despite the heat wave that's gripped the Front Range, a group of citizen activists turned out to walk in the Denver Pride parade with CO-02 candidate Jared Polis.
I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that despite living in Denver most of my life, I've never attended the parade or the pride events. I've walked/attended numerous parades over the years and this parade easily ranks near the top in terms of enjoyment. Everybody (volunteers & parade-goers) was motivated and having a good time.
The Polis campaign help add to the fun by getting creative. They had some bubble-guns for walkers:
Larger bubble blowers were along for the ride in wagons:
Along the entire parade route, those bubbles were a hit. The only thing that could have topped them would have been water guns, of which we only had a couple. Those quickly ran out of water, so people were left with just having fun and not being cooled off.
We walked in a larger group of political-types. Among others, Pat Waak (Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party), Morgan Carrol (Colorado HD-36), Claire Levy (Colorado HD-13), Evie Hudak (Colorado State Board of Education & SD-19 candidate), Diana DeGette (Rep. CO-01), and Will Shafroth (CO-02 candidate) also walked (and rode in cars). Speaking of which, it would be nice if Democratic office-holders and candidates could ride in hybrids if they're going to ride in anything in parades. Putting your money where your mouth is and all that...
Anyway, everybody had a good time. I know I'm very much looking forward to what the campaign comes up with next. I certainly appreciate knowing a candidate that is not only viable but employs creative techniques from which to draw support.
Hat tip to fellow walker Kath & Jared's campaign for taking pictures.
