Yesterday the Senate passed the Lieberman Amendment (No. 2073) to the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2008 (H.R. 1585) by a vote of 97-0 (Vote No. 242) according to THOMAS (Library of Congress). This happened just after defeating the Webb Amendment in the middle of the Iraq debate.
UPDATED.
Some of Lieberman's remarks (enter page "S8984" without quotes in search box and then click for page S8984)
Whether you are pro-war in Iraq or antiwar in Iraq, whether you think we ought to mandate a withdrawal of some or all of our troops or you disagree with that, it seems to me every Member of this Chamber ought to come together around the evidence that our military has provided of what the Iranians are doing to kill our soldiers and to tell them we know it and we want them to stop it.
My emphasis.
I mention this because Senator Lugar did talk about Iran and the importance of maintaining American credibility in the region.
It goes without saying, but I want to say it, that no one in this Chamber is looking for a fight with Iran. But that does nothing to alter the fact that Iran has, through its proxies, initiated a fight against us. That is a reality we no longer have the luxury of ignoring. It is a reality we must confront in the defense of the men and women who wear the uniform, the proud uniform of the United States of America in battle in Iraq today.
Yeah, right, we invade their neighboring country and they are initiating the fight!
I've got to go to work and this needs some heavy duty response so have fun and WTF!!!
