I have always been patriotic. From the time I was a tiny little girl and my dad was watching a ball game, the moment I heard the national anthem I would run from wherever I was in the house, stand in front of the tv and sing with my hand over my heart. I have registered thousands of voters. I have watched ever single political convention since 1972 (I was four.) My kids all do the same. I love democracy, and I love America. And while it breaks my heart to say this, I believe that this time we deserve to admit defeat and leave Iraq.
Of course, we should never have been there to begin with, but we are. We invaded a soveriegn nation under false pretenses and faulty intelligence, and deposed a leader we used to like until it was no longer convenient. We are responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi lives. Even worse, we are responsible for completely destabilizing an entire region and giving increasing the threat of terrorism and nuclear proliferation.
You all know this, why am I saying it now?
Because it is cathartic, and I am at work looking for a little political discussion in a political void.
So I want to say I think it is time that we issued a great big "OUR BAD" to the world, and got the hell out of there, and begin the work of diplomacy, and of course footing the bill for restoring that poor country back to some semblance of liveable.
And I think Bush and Co. need to face the same music Sadaam did.
