Dear Congressman Waxman,
It is well past the time when this Congress should have acted to prevent the continuing destruction of our Constitutional rights and our position as a respected nation.
I believe that there is NO ISSUE MORE IMPORTANT THAN IMPEACHMENT at the present time.
The Bill Moyers Journal AND the Washington Post have just addressed the issue with the Libby pardon being the apparent tipping point....although there have been so many others that could have been. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have given Congress a smorgasbord of impeachable offenses. Choose one and get on with it.
While I have been happy that you are uncovering all of the misdeeds in your various hearings, I am still concerned by your words before the Pacific Palisades club last fall that you thought your hearings would set the record straight for history. For history.
We need far more than material for a future history book. We need you to ACT on the obvious consequences of what you have uncovered--IMPEACHMENT!
The timidity of Congress in addressing this most critical issue is alarming, and it accounts for the extremely LOW APPROVAL polls with George W. Bush actually coming out higher! The '06 election was a mandate to CHANGE COURSE and NOT CONTINUE the Bush agenda that has us spiraling down the levels of hell.
With the Republicans finally waking up to the fact that they're in serious trouble, I expect that one of them could be authoring an impeachment resolution. It would be a great campaign issue. Cleaning their own house, standing up for the rule of law, and apologizing. Should just one Republican have the spine to do that, it will be curtains for the Dems in '08 and back to minority status forever.
I believe it is time for you to reassess your previous No-Impeachment position and come out strongly in favor of an investigation into impeachment. The John Nichols book,"Genius of Impeachment" projects the demise of our democracy in its present form unless these corrupt liars are held accountable. The very life of our Constitution and the system of checks and balances is at stake here, and those in Congress who are NOT stopping the Bush/Cheney juggernaut are relegating themselves to become irrelevant in future administrations regardless of who wins.
