Hi, I’m Sherri Welsh otherwise known as Congressional Candidates Wife. My husband is Barry Welsh, running to be the Congressional Candidate of Indiana’s 6th District.
It’s been a while since I wrote last; there have been a few changes around here.
All 4 of our girls were here and if I didn’t believe it before, I believe it now – you can NOT have 5 women, 3 dogs and a man in one house for 2 weeks and only have one working washroom. The kids, the dogs and I survived but I’m not sure about Barry!!!
Needless to say, we have a great time just being a family and doing family things and all had a great time! HOWEVER, if you include house hunting, job-hunting, campaign organizing and a localized family vacation and new addition to our family (we were "given" a 6 week baby Beagle and she’s a DIVA, but we love her!) – well you get the picture. All I can say is – Poor Barry! He has the patience of Job!
We are looking forward to Yearly Kos in Chicago – it looks to be a great time and very informative as well. Barry and I signed up months ago and we are really impressed with the schedule! I have to admit, I will not have lost the 20 lbs. that I had hoped to by then, but Oh Well! I’m at least going to be in attendance!!!
We have settled on buying a house, one that we have insisted on keeping in the 6th District. We made the compromise and found a house still within the 6th district but still within drivable distance to work and that is NOT easy!
We are excited though, we really like the house and it has an office that we plan to use for Barry’s campaign – it’s own entrances and separate from the rest of the house.
I’ve been working non-stop with the exception of the Girls here for summer vacation – it was a BLAST!!!! I found it so funny to talk to our oldest daughter (will be 23 on the 20th of this month) she has a real interest in Politics and she is so proud of Barry for his efforts. I had never thought of myself as being very political in the past, but she was talking to me of some of her favorite memories growing up as a child and she kept saying to me "Mom, you are the most Liberal person I’ve ever known" and I asked her what she meant by that. Caylen’s response was that it boggled her mind to think we were living in Indiana – apparently not the most Liberal of environments. I told her that she would be surprised at how many folks were actually "Liberal" and that just because we were living in Indiana doesn’t mean there are NO Liberal people living there. I think that Indiana has a rich history steeped in Liberalism. Liberalism cloaked in a disguise – maybe Liberalism has many different meanings? Like I look at Indiana from what I know about Indiana living here and I have to say that Hoosiers are definitely Free Thinkers! I mean how many states do you know of that have held out so long on Day light savings time???
I digress, our family has been busy – a lot of coordinating, a lot of organizing and sooooo much packing to do. I admit, it’s a bit daunting to look at the "stuff" that one accumulates and especially have to sort, clean, sell, throw or pack. We still have stuff that our kids had when they were little – I think I would rather have root canal rather than deal with the prospect of moving. BUT there is a silver lining – I’m endeavoring to view this as a good time to get rid of the stuff that we already have, and be able to move into a beautiful home (well to me it is!) and have room for the "kids" (dogs, both boys and our new baby girl) to roam. We are excited about appliance shopping – who knew one could gasp over front-loading energy efficient washers and dryers???!!! We’ve been getting ready to gear up for Barry’s run and we are taking no prisoners when it comes to results.
I just thought you would like to know a little of what is going on behind the scenes.
I’ll post more when I get the time!
Thank you for taking the time to read my diary and as always, my diary is not vetted through the campaign but is an inside look at a Congressional Campaign.
Love,
Sherri Welsh
