Amidst all the controversy about Bill O'Reilly's excoriation of Daily Kos (via the cherry picking of comments and quotes from diarists who number ~.0004 percent of the total DKos user population), I find myself wondering why, as a consistent diarist on Daily Kos, he would hate me.
I say this because he didn't say: such-and-such a SPECIFIC user on the OPEN FORUM blog known as Daily Kos writes: blah, blah, blah... And he couldn't say the MANAGEMENT OF Daily KOS said: blah, blah, blah (because they didn't).
He just said "Daily Kos" "blah, blah, blah..."
Well, I post diaries on Daily Kos and none of that "blah, blah blah" came from me.
So why does Bill O'Reilly hate me?
More on my O'Reilly (oh really?) confusion below the fold...
Now, before I go into my own confusion about this, I do want to point people to BarbinMD's EXCELLENT analysis of Bill O'Reilly's comments in this piece entitled: What O'Reilly Missed.
Required reading, imo.
But, back to my question: Why does he hate me?
As some of you know, I've been on the forefront of protests against some of those "blah, blah, blah" type comments that did appear here, so I know where he cherry-picked them from.
And where did they come from? There are approximately ten or twenty users out of FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND (.00002 to .00004 percent of Daily Kos), who've posted and/or recommended the examples O'Reilly (cherry) picked -- which, as those users know, have almost always resulted in flame wars of protest against those very posts from another group of ten or twenty users who strongly challenge their point of view, while the other ~499,980 Daily Kos users roll their eyes in a plague on both their houses and turn away to discuss the number one mandate of this site:
Electing Democrats.
(Hmmm, maybe that's what Bill O'Reilly o'really hates about Daily Kos...)
But we were talking about why Bill O'Reilly hates me.
It can't be because of an effort on my part to elect democrats, because I don't post about electing democrats (as a rule).
It can't be because he has a problem with the fact that many of my posts protest against fascism (which I hate with a passion) as evidence by my diaries about the horrifying attack on Elie Wiesel, and the opening of the concentration camp archives in Germany to the Holocaust Museum and academics and how important that is in the fight against Holocaust denial.
And I can't think he'd have a problem with my diary about the environmental cooperation and growing friendships between Israeli and Jordanian farmers on both sides of the Jordan River.
It also seems unlikely that he'd hate me for all the work I've done on the pet food recalls, unless he hates puppies and pooties.
And, of course, if we're only going to look at comments, it seems very unlikely that he'd hate me for my disgust with Hamas after I'd lost two friends to their hate, or my appreciation for this fine soldier's service to our country.
And then there are the rest of my diaries, which are about the ways to improve the environment, the history of the Kurds and the Zoroastrian religion.
So, does he have anything against the way I worry about the environment?
Does he have anything against the fact that I strongly support Israel while hoping for a two-state solution and peace?
Does he have anything against the way I admire the Kurds?
Does he have anything against my study of ancient religions?
Does he have anything against the fact that I hate Hamas?
I'm so confused.
And, if I'm confused, I have to wonder about the other ~499,979 diarists who post here about the environment, electing democrats, raising money for a battered women's shelter (remember that?), thanking the soldiers who post here for their SERVICE to our country, oh, heck, search the tag cloud for more.
The only thing I can think is that maybe it's not me that Bill O'Reilly hates when he calls all of Daily Kos a hate site.
Maybe he just hates us*
(*as opposed to them).
