[UPDATE: madame defarge suggested in comments that everyone as disgusted as us wear black armbands to July 4 parades and other observations on Wednesday, with signs calling for justice for Scooter Libby and the rest of this corrupt administration. I wholeheartedly endorse this suggestion. I also want to see a single, dignified, mammoth demonstration in Washington before the summer is out, but that requires organization. Making a statement at our local July 4 observations does not. -c]
I snapped this afternoon. Cheney's gambit to commute Scooter's prison time, still leaving him with Fifth Amendment protections so he need not testify to Congress, sent me over an edge I didn't know I still had left. I'm livid, but I'm not hot. I have reached that point of ultimate anger where everything goes very cold -- the temperature best suited for serving revenge, said Don Corleone. But it's not revenge I seek. It's justice.
More below the fold.
Now that the administration has made clear its willingness to cut down our system of criminal justice at its knees; and now that the Democratic leadership has made clear its unwillingness to pursue the appropriate remedy for criminal misconduct in the executive branch, impeachment, conviction, and removal from office; and now that the enablers in the news media have made clear their undying fealty to the Washington power structure personified by the likes of Barbara Comstock and Victoria Toensing; there is only one tool still available to us. That's to take this struggle to the streets of Washington.
Now I'm just one guy post a diary from his living room in Fort Worth. I don't have a lot of money or time for travel. But if we can find at least 10,000 patriots willing to stand across from the White House and make a huge racket, I'll be there. If we can find a few thousand willing to walk to the White House entrances, join hands, block all access and egress peacefully until arrested, I'll be there. If we can do this with dignity, dressed for business, showing the nation on television that we are serious Americans with a serious purpose, I'll be there.
I am not interested in street theater and look-at-me-I'm-on-TV antics. If you remember the civil rights marches under King, how they were dressed, how they carried themselves, that is what we must achieve here. We must make middle America look at us and realize that we're not so different from them. That's how we succeed.
Can we enlist thousands of real patriots to the cause? Can you join us? Will you?
Is there someone in D.C. who can help string this together?
Nixon walked. Oliver North walked. Caspar Weinberger walked. Scooter Libby walks. There will be no end to this parade of criminals until we loudly and forcefully send the message to Washington that the game is up. That means you, Dick Cheney. It also means you Nancy Pelosi. You, too, Harry Reid. We demand justice with teeth for every criminal co-conspirator in this administration, and we will not rest until justice is done for all. If it means invoking the RICO statutes to take these guys down, so be it, but we will not let the protegés of this gaggle of crooks poison the system and this country into the next generation.
Who is with me?
