Can Kosian diarists restrain their ego enough to not flood the "intro copy" box with the entire length of their entry?
2 Is having a joint-effort progressive politial wikipedia, something of a coalition effort designed to become a destination glossary for all equiring progressive/democratic mindes, a worthwhile endeavor?
There's more on both of these (and sex sex sex) in the full entry.
Intro vs. Extended Copy
See, the beauty of these two boxes is that if you want to write a lengthy multi-paragraph diary entry -- and good on ya if you do -- you can still be kind to your fellow diarists by not taking up so much screen real-estate. You can also be kind to your prospective readership by summarizing yr self so they know if they want to go ahead and parse your lengthy prose.
Or perhaps you might induce them to click "read more" by selaciously associating your content with something enticing, something which may or may not really be there. Advertising, if you will. That's the part that's about sex.
In any case, I'd like to see more people use the Intro field for no other reason than it enhances my experience of reading the diary page. Remember, the more craft and care you put into creating your content, the more likely it is that others will find it valuable.
A Progressive Coalition Wikipedia
Riffing on Kos's idea of having a wiki-powered encyclopedia for this site, and knowing there are other progressive/democratic websites (a few of which I help run) which want to do the same, it struck me of a Sunday morning that what might be best would be to pool our efforts and go for a single entity. Here's what I think we could do:
- We'd have our own domain and our own site
- We'd get contributers from across the liberal net
- We'd have plug-ins for various sites (Kos, etc) which allow people to easily link to the progressive encyclopedia entry for whatever they're discussing.
All this is pretty easy stuff to do. Just need to get a few heads on setting it up and have a few powerbloggers (Kos, Atrios, etc) sign on the assure it gets used.
