Yesterday during a discussion on the topic of newly released poll numbers that show Bush to be closing in on Richard Nixon's poll numbers at the nadir of the Watergate scandal, conservative editor and commentator Fred Barnes proved once again that the state of denial is alive and well in the Republican Party. Barnes desperately tried to paint a happy face on the dismal news, comparing the Bush Presidency to that of Abraham Lincoln and claiming that history will show that Bush the Lesser set the stage for the eventual destruction of global terrorism.
News Hounds has the video evidence of Fred Barnes' descent into insanity at the link above. Unbelievable.
"Mr. Chairman, when the airplane took off and the captain announced that we were heading to Baghdad, all you-know-what broke out on the airplane. The men started shouting, it wasn’t until the security guy working for First Kuwaiti waved an MP5 in the air that the men settled down. They realized that they had no other choice but to go to Baghdad. Let me spell it out clearly: I believe these men were kidnapped by First Kuwaiti to work at the US Embassy... I’ve read the State Department Inspector General’s report on the construction of the embassy. Mr. Chairman, it’s not worth the paper it’s printed on. This is a cover-up and I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity to set the record straight."
You know if the Senate would just call it "legislative waterboarding" and not "oversight," I bet they could get Cheney to support it.
It is time for Alberto Gonzales to be replaced as attorney general of the United States. The case has grown stronger as the weeks and months of implausibility and fumbling have accumulated. After his performance on Tuesday giving testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, there can be no doubt. Gonzales has lost credibility, he contradicts himself, stumbles, and leaves Democratic and Republican members of Congress shaking their heads in disbelief."
