Richard Clarke's testimony has shed light on why the Bushies are losing and OBL is winning. The Bushies have absolutley no repect for the little guy or the masses, so they are incapable of taking seriously threats to thier power that come from this level. That is why they concentrate on states and ignore any assymetrical threats that are not tied to what they consider thier rivals. So while Osama and crew have declared and are waging war on them, the Bushies disregard them and are busy fighting elsewere.
This is the great flaw of the Administration in general, you can see this in everything they do. That is why they were unconcerned about the fact that the populations of England, Italy, and Spain opposed the invasion of Iraq. All they cared about was getting the support of those who mattered in thier eyes, those who held power. Al-Qaeda was able to take advantage of that to peel of at least one ally, maybe more as it turns out.
This is why they could not see what would happen in Iraq even though they were warned. They view the people as sheep to be manipulated, and that they could install a leader and bullshit the Iraqis into going along. Just like they think they can redistribute the wealth upwards and fool ordinary people into thinking they are better off regardless of the evidence of thier lives. Apparently Rove reads "The Prince" every year, my suggestion would be that he expand his reading list a bit. Reading Lincoln might be helpful, especially his statements about whether you can "fool all the people all the time".
