I've heard three good possibilities for dragging this gang of insane criminals away from their current positions of absolute dictatorial power. I'm interested in Kossack's thoughts on the relative merits of the three. I think the procress for the three of them all reinforce each other, myself.
All must be performed by Congress.
- The first, of course, is impeachment. Impeachment hearings in the House give it an unfightable subpoena power, with untouchable precedents. This leads us to number two...
- Inherent contempt. This may be what's needed to actually get some of the lower-down criminals to turn on their bosses (since they know they'll be pardoned for any ordinary crimes, but inherent contempt is different).
- Mental status review. Discussed in vhttp://www.dailykos.com/comments/2007/7/3/174610/8900/138#c138 this invokes the procedure for removing an ill President or Vice-President, which has never actually been used. It may have some procedural advantages over impeachment, and after all, let's be charitable, maybe these guys are just nuts rather than simply evil.
