Sunday I stood on a corner, here in Orlando, for an hour with several cool people, holding a sign simply saying "ENOUGH!". A lot of people asked us "Enough what?" and that got me thinking of what Enough! means to me.
I started thinking of what I had had Enough of;
Enough war!
Enough lies!
Enough Bush!
Enough Cheney!
Enough Gonzolas!
Enough incompetance!
Enough law breaking!
Enough unitary executive!
Enough obstruction!
Enough torture!
Enough strong arm diplomacy!
Enough ...
Needless to say; the list got quit long, quite fast. To me Enough is all this and more. To me it's a public forum to air your grievances. To protest whatever you have reason to protest. Protest Enough if you want, it's you're right. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you're peaceful and respectful, you're welcome to join us.
The few of us out there got talking about weather our message was getting out. Were people honking because they knew what Enough was about? Were they waving just to wave at the protesters? What did they think we were about?
Did people think we were protesting the local government? (we were standing outside of City Hall) Local politics? The newly proposed sports arena? The rising crime rate? Global warming? The war? What had we had enough of?
Personally, I like the esoteric nature of people holding signs that simply say "ENOUGH!" My hope is that it gets them to think, even for a moment, hopefully for a lifetime. That it becomes whatever the individual wants it to be. It becomes his/her grievance; and for a moment in their head there's other people out there who, like them, have had Enough.
One man walking by asked if we were protesting the felon's list. He was a little disappointed when we told him we were protesting Bush and the war, but still supportive. He asked if he could make his own sign about the felon's list and bring it to stand with us. The answer: "Of Courrrsse!!" Bring it out, stand with us, air your grievance.
To me, Enough is the people's protest. Started and driven by the people out there making it happen. My sign will always be simply "ENOUGH!"
