I just got this from the California Nurses Association, the kick-butt union that has been working with Michael Moore to promote SiCKO, and the idea of universal, single payer health care for America:
If you or people you know haven't yet seen Michael Moore's new movie 'SiCKO,' a compelling documentary about healthcare, mark your calendar to see it this weekend, get involved, and stay involved in helping us get from 'SiCKO' to HR 676 (Conyers), which would guarantee healthcare for everyone in America, for life.
Like banning the slave trade or getting women the vote, we are not going to win the first time out. But it's time to get things rolling, and HR 676 is the way to do it.
More on the flip.
The email continues:
In one of the most incredible nights ever for the national nurse movement, thousands of you flocked to the opening of Michael Moore's 'SiCKO.' For the first time ever, the nurses' story-about fighting insurance companies for patient care-is being told on the big screen. Thousands of nurses "hosted" 'SiCKO' at theaters around the country and spoke to the public about the movement to guarantee healthcare for all Americans. It was an emotional night for everybody. We've heard stories of entire audiences walking out of the theater in tears, and demanding to know what they can do to change things.
How are we going to get from 'SiCKO' to 676 (U.S. Rep John Conyers bill for guaranteed healthcare)? By raising heck, obviously, and forcing our politicians to finally take this seriously.
Here's what we can do next:
- Take 5 friends to see 'SiCKO' in the next week. The movie's distributors are watching the audience numbers closely as they decide whether to open "SiCKO" in new theaters.
- Write a letter to your local newspaper explaining why you loved 'SiCKO,' and what changes you hope to see in the healthcare system. No one is a more powerful advocate for healthcare reform than America's nurses, and your voices must be heard!
- Email your Congressman and tell her/him to sign on as a co-sponsor to HR 676, so it can finally get the vote it deserves.
Thanks for fighting for Guaranteed Healthcare in America.

I'm not a nurse, but I'm with them 100% on this. Conyer's bill, The United States National Health Insurance Act, H.R. 676 ("Expanded & Improved Medicare For All") is a single payer bill that's here and ready to go. Get your rep to co-sponsor. As I write this, 75 Representatives have already co-sponsored HR-676, including, I am proud to say, my own congressman, Rep. Sam Farr.
Has yours?
