Let's say that in 2008, by some fluke, a Republican gets elected as President. Deities knows who that might be.
Still and all, it's a possibility. I remember 2004, and the incredulity with which we faced a Bush re-election.
What then would happen with Iraq (Iran), healthcare, global warming, constitutional issues? Would we simply face an extension of what we see now?
Could we face another 4 years?
Personally, I think not, I would simply bail outta here. I've discussed this with my ever-loving partner, and she'd go the extra mile to becme an EU citizen (which is relatively not such a big deal as it was for me to become a US citizen).
My natural reaction is to stand up for citizen's rights - but my feeling is that these 'effers' have gone 'beyond the pail' - they hold the game, and there's nothing we can do to stand up to them.
The bottom line is that we're simply not prepared to have our freedom invaded. The only reason I became a US citizen was to ensure that I wouldn't end up in GitMo with no Habeas Corpus. How's that for a negative reason?
On the other hand, I'm conflicted, I know a whole bunch of people in this wonderful country who are great people, but seem to be waiting for the 'other shoe to drop'. Fer deities sake, what is it going to take for that shoe to become self-evident?
Grrr - just an immigrant
