Last night on Larry King, Vice President Cheney continued his pro-war rhetoric despite admitting that there were serious problems with the pre-war intelligence regarding Iraq. Cheney said he would go to war in Iraq all over again and that he and other Administration officials have great confidence in General Patreas and was confident that success in Iraq would be achieved by the end of the Bush Administration.
Cheney went on to say that he cares very little about public opinion polls stating that "the polls are unreliable and they bounce all over the place." He also said that "I'm not trying to win a popularity contest." Regarding the upcoming month-long break by Congress, Cheney flippantly said "It's better than taking two."
Cheney said that he and President Bush were concerned about every American and coalition forces death but that was something that comes with "the job." When asked about the situation in Iraq, Cheney said that coalition troops were making steady progress in their surge. In an almost state of denial regarding the enormous loss of Iraqi citizens lives and the impovershment and displacement of millions of others from their homes, Cheney stated "We've liberated 50 million people in Afghanistan and Iraq."
