Newbusters' (Motto: "Exposing and combating liberal bias") blogger Noel Sheppard uses words like "disgraceful" and "fraud" to describe NASA's apparent withholding of the fact that 1934 not 1998 remains the hottest year on record in the U.S. Meanwhile, Ace of Spades blogger claims that the fact that NASA trumpeted 1998 as 0.01 degrees warmer than 1934 (the original second hottest year on record in U.S. history) when, in fact, 1998 is 0.02 degrees cooler than 1934 "completely destroys fifteen years of aggressively stupid proselytizing on behalf of Mother Goddess Earth."
Bold statements for a handful of bloggers too content to brush over the climate science -- like the 1930s Dust Bowl phenomena and use of physical not statistical models as pointed out by the New Republic's Bradford Plumer -- behind this irrelevant and convenient "fraud".
This just in from DeSmogBlog.
It's not surprising that a quickly acknowledged and corrected discrepancy in temperature recording by NASA was pounced on by the denier camp to further the proof that global warming is a hoax! Unsurprisingly, the reports have been biased and have omitted certain key facts, not the least of which is that the GLOBAL temperature record (it is after all, global warming) remains largely unaffected by the corrected data.
New Republic has published an excellent review of the facts using - wait for it - scientific data!
