Because Kentucky needs a candidate of impeccable character
Many of you will remember Lt Col Andrew Horne (ret) who last year ran in the Democratic primary for Kentucky's 3rd congressional district. His campaign received an overwhelming amount of support from this community. Next year, Senator Mitch McConnell will be running for reelection, and many of us believe that Andrew is the right guy to Ditch Mitch.
Andrew served 27 years in the Marines, including tours during both of the wars in Iraq. During his last tour, he concluded that the Bush administration is not being fully honest with Americans about the situation there. In 2006, his duty to his country compelled him to run for US Congress and so he shed his apolitical Independent affiliation and registered as a Democrat. Since then he's been a vocal critic of the war, and an active member of VoteVets, traveling around the state and speaking out about the failures of the Bush administration and the Republican road-blockers in the Senate.
During the 2006 election, Andrew became the first netroots candidate in Kentucky: You can see some of the impressive stats he racked up at his campaign website archives (please excuse the generic wordpress template, we're still working on making it as beautiful as the former site was).
Many of us still feel a strong allegiance to this born leader, and this is our effort to persuade him to reenter politics as a candidate once again. We're trying to draft Andrew Horne to run against Mitch McConnell.
If you believe as we do, that Andrew is the one potential candidate who can stand up to the GOP political machine, then please sign our petition. Our party does not need a contentious primary election. Several other deserving politicians have indicated their interest in running, however, if we generate enough grassroots support, we can show Andrew that he has a great chance at finally ditching Mitch.
This will be no easy race -- anyone opposing Sen. McConnell will surely face some of the nastiest political attacks seen in our state. Which is why it is so important that the Democratic Party put forth a candidate with impeccable character.
A family man. An accomplished lawyer. A man who has served this country with selfless courage in the battlefield, and carried that sense of duty back to the community he lives in. We believe Andrew has the strength of character to challenge the incumbent, and to win.
If you support the troops, if you think members of Congress are more worried about saving their own skin than passing quality legislation supported by the majority of Americans, then put someone in office who has earned the right to be there. That person is Andrew Horne.
He's earned it. Declare your support. Sign the petition.
