Scared? Are you kidding me? There are a few thousand of us, maybe a few hundred thousand...so? Why should they be so scared of the "unwashed masses" of us when there are so many more of the "brainwashed masses" to rely on? If there are 300,000 of us (I'm not sure what the figure is), that's a huge amount, but we're really less then 1% of the population. There are still 25% of the population support Bush and probably more than a few who would love to pick up a gun and shoot you and I. Why would they be scared of us when we type our little manifestos on our computers in the comfort of our homes or offices? What are we doing to actually scare them?
Yeah, we're starting to have some impact on elections, bully for us! What impact are we having? We've gotten more Dems elected and that's a start, but how many of us are willing to actually do something? Scared...please.
They're not scared of us. The day we MOBILIZE to direct action is the day they get scared. What you're seeing is not fear of us, it's the fear of us actually mobilizing to DO something. If you really want to scare the powers that be, have a Boston Tea Party. I don't mean throw tea into the Boston harbor either.
Real fear will hit when we actually use non-violent direct action to retake our country and our constitution. Until the D-kos turns into an organizing tool, it is simply interesting reading. It is simply a place for the leftists to vent their frustrations.
I'm sorry, but Turkana's diary smacks of self rightous pap. Championing our feats is marvelous, but lets not fool ourselves, they still control 99% of public perception while we're fighting for 1%. It's great to feel good about what we're doing here and I do, but I don't see it translate into real world action by the individuals posting here.
I'm out there every day organizing for social change and social justice and all that's here is talk...entertaining and informative talk, but talk nonetheless. This is a great forum for ideas and it really could be a great organizing tool. Why not use it that way? When was the last time that a real action was mobilized by any of the frontpage posters of this site? Yeah, I'm sure it was a phone campaign or a email campaign, but when was the last time people actually went somewhere to do something as a massive group? Maybe that would help make real substantive changes. When was the last time that we all descended upon our Senators offices to DEMAND that they filibuster the war funding bill? Why not? There was no need to pass that stupid supplemental or any other war funding bill. Why not take their offices and make them arrest you?
Oh yeah, fear...who's scared now? I encounter fear often in my job and I know that there are 3 truths about fear that always hold:
- Nothing risked, nothing gained.
- There's anonymity in numbers, just as there's power in numbers.
- What do we have to fear? They depend on us for their lifestyle (and $).
On second thought, Turkana, you're right, they should be scared, not of what we're doing, but of what we might do.
Peace.
