Hello,
I am your friendly neighborhood volunteer DFA organizer, posting from my hometown in Louisville, KY. As Kossaks know, KY has a legitimate Democratic governor pickup opportunity in November with DFA-endorsed candidate Steve Beshear. Beshear was endorsed by the state-level DFA group, Change for Kentucky, in May of 2007. Beshear is also currently featured on the national DFA website.
While our members have already been active as volunteers and donors in the Beshear campaign, we wanted to launch a series of coordinated events across the state to show folks how strongly we believe that real change is needed this fall, and that Steve Beshear is the man to lead the change.
DFA has been very successful with houseparties, and so we launched parties today across Kentucky. We also participated in a pancake breakfast and some members even walked some precincts! Please follow me below the fold for the story on the houseparties.
I think the advisory I sent to the media, including all bloggers I had contact information for, says it best:

GRASSROOTS VOLUNTEERS OPEN THEIR HOMES TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE OF CHANGE AND SUPPORT BESHEAR
Dozens of Close Gatherings around KY Will Send a Clear Message:
Steve Beshear Will Bring Positive Change for Kentuckians
Louisville – On Saturday evening, August 18, members of Change for Kentucky in counties across the state will gather with friends and family members in their homes to discuss the important choice voters face in the statewide election scheduled for November. The focus of the conversations will be on the gubernatorial race in particular.
During Republican Governor Ernie Fletcher's term in office, corruption - not least in the form of the merit hiring scandal - has embarrassed Kentuckians and shifted focus away from important government functions. Blanket pardons have been issued, seemingly to conceal the truth, and vital positions have been awarded for apparent political purposes. The cost of this corruption to Kentuckians is incalculable, but the embarrassment is all too tangible.
"True grassroots change does not start with big political donors and behind-the-scenes meetings with special interests," said Mike Bailey, Change for Kentucky's co-organizer. "On Saturday, in homes across the state, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors will gather to discuss Steve Beshear's plan to change our state for the better. The collection plate will be passed and the momentum will grow. One conversation and one small donor at a time, we can help Steve Beshear move Kentucky forward. We do not want four more years of incompetence and scandal. We want change, and we believe that we have the power to make a difference."
